A big thank you to everyone involved in our research project ‘Across Continents and Families’
“For this month’s news piece, I wanted to dedicate this post to be one of gratitude.”
— Radha Yagnik (Assistant Psychologist)
What we’re grateful for
We are currently exploring the delivery of BFT in Japan and Iraq in our project ‘Across Continents and Families’. Both countries have helped us enormously with gaining ethics approval from the respective institutions of each country, for which we are forever grateful. The time and effort that the teams have put in to advise our project, link us in with relevant institutions for ethics approval, and share the news of our study means a lot to us.
We are also proud to share that both participants from Iraq and Japan have wonderfully contributed and shared their experiences of delivering BFT in their respective countries.
At the moment, myself (Radha Yagnik) and Louisa Baird are in the process of reflexive discussions and making sense of how to best organise and share the rich data the participants have provided. Hopefully this should aid with our understanding of how BFT works across different cultures and mental health contexts. We invite ourselves to embark on the beginning of this journey to shape future research questions and curiosities to ensure we are culturally informed, curious and reflexive. Our hopes are this will inform both training and supervision of the model.
This is an important project for us. Everyone experiences poor mental health at some point in their lives, and often it can affect our loved ones greatly. Family work provides an opportunity for mental health to look at the spaces shared between us and our loved ones to create more moments of understanding and connection during this difficult time. Exploring the experiences of delivering BFT allows us to learn, reflect and improving our training materials as a team. It also provides a unique opportunity to create moments of connection and celebration for the parts of the model that are working and lives family work continues to improve and change.
We are so proud to deliver training across the globe to increase family work and we endeavour to support those trained in their journey of delivery. We thank our colleagues, students, clinicians in the UK and abroad for shaping this moment together with us.
