Review of our ‘Family Interventions for Psychosis and Bipolar Disorder’ Course

Sarah Phillips (Advanced Nurse Practitioner) recently completed our ‘Family Interventions for Psychosis and Bipolar Disorder‘ course. The course is delivered over a 12 month period, including taught days, supervision and coursework which meets the standards set out by Health Education England. Sarah writes about her experience of the course below.

The Behavioural family therapy (BFT) course has given me the skills and tools I need to be confident in supporting service users and their families. The systematic way the training was delivered over the year was easy to follow and very well delivered.

The model was Learn about the theory, see one by role play and then do one by role play. Following this training I have been able to set up a BFT pathway in our early intervention in Psychosis team and actively manage the workflow through referral, waiting list and allocation to other trained practitioners in the team. This directly improves our teams performance in the National clinical Audit of psychosis (NCAP)  audits.

So far, we have had excellent feedback from the families and whilst it doesn’t always go smoothly the practitioners that have completed the training access supervision, and can follow the agendas,  guides and collect feedback to demonstrate change.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this training as an integral part of recovery from Psychosis. I have had fantastic support over the years from the Meriden team – Thank you all!
