Eve Thompson

Obituary –  Eve Thompson

A hugely respected carer from South Warwickshire, Eve Thompson, passed away quietly in April aged 95. Eve made a tremendous contribution to mental health in raising the voice of carers nationally and locally particularly in her voluntary work with the National Schizophrenia Fellowship (now Rethink) of which she became Chair. She campaigned tirelessly for better services for people living with schizophrenia and psychosis and their families. Working with other carers she established a regional Carers in Partnership group to help carers work more closely with their local mental health services

Eve became very interested in family interventions as a result of which she undertook a Meriden BFT course and she also went on to complete the Training for Trainers course, one of only two carers ever to do so. Having done the training Eve went on to successfully deliver BFT to families in South Warwickshire  in conjunction with the local NHS team

Due to her involvement with Alcoholics Anonymous, Eve was also a significant contributor to training undertaken by Meriden for Drug  and Alcohol Addictions teams based on her own lived experiences of alcohol. Her input to the training was always very powerful

Deepest sympathies go to the family
