Bespoke Mental Health’s secondary care programme: Our contribution on Problem Solving
On September 23rd, 2025, the Meriden Programme proudly presented as part of Bespoke Mental Health’s Secondary Care Programme. We delivered a half-day workshop titled: “Problem Solving – Using a Structured Problem-Solving Process in Clinical Settings.”
Paula Conneely (Occupational Therapist) and Julia Danks (Clinical Specialist) facilitated the workshop, which over 200 staff attended. This included recorded contributions from Peter Woodhams (Carer Consultant).
During the morning session, participants were introduced to:
- The work of the Meriden Family Programme
- The 6-step model of problem solving
- Practical applications in individual, group, and family-based situations
A recorded role play demonstrated how problem solving is delivered within the context of Behavioural Family Therapy (BFT). Peter Woodhams then shared his lived experience of problem solving from a family member’s perspective.

Feedback from those who attended was overwhelmingly positive, with comments including:
“Extremely well organised. Very clear presenter. Pace of workshop was excellent. Mini breaks very helpful and aided in focus and concentration for the whole morning… THANKS A MILLION!”
“It has given me a tool I can use in practice and helped me feel comfortable to use it.”
“I liked that the event did not solely focus on family or group interventions, but also explained how the approach could be applied effectively with individuals.”

“Lovely presentation, though it is not a new subject area for me in my clinical practice, I thoroughly appreciated the opportunity to refresh and lean some new information.”
